Speculative Design: Cyano Energy

A collaborative project surrounding the ideas of speculative thinking. We created a scenario to aid in fixing a problem for the future of the human race. How we consume energy and the increase in the human population, are two main global issues that we face in the near future. These were our problems and our solution was using plant photosynthesis.

With in-depth research, we found an algae that have the best qualities to photosynthesise with full optimisation. There has also been scientific research into this algae working within humans. So the humans can photosynthesise and create their own energy for the planet.

This algae is called Cyano.

With the human population increasing to 9.9 billion by 2050 and other renewable energy farms estimated to take over fossil fuels by 2030 means there will need to be lots of space for solar panel, wind energy farms, as they take up a lot of surface area.

If humans can create the energy as 'moving converters', this means we only need a small space to convert the energy to electricity.

Creating a solution for the human population and sustainable energy for the future.

My contribution was designing the Cyano Farm, as shown above. Researching the converting process within humans. Also narrating the final advert for this speculative idea, as well as creating the initial animations.

I and a group member collaborated very effectively with software. I created the design in Cinema 4D and they developed the effect through another software. Showing a strong outcome from a collaborative process.
